    The moon phases explained

The moon cycles from new to full and back about every 29.5 days. New Moon is the traditional time for fresh starts and intentions. First Quarter is about taking action and facing resistance. Full Moon is about culmination, clarity and release. Last Quarter is for reflection and letting go. Many people also pay attention to the zodiac sign the Moon is in, since it colors the mood of the day.

    What is Mercury retrograde?

Mercury retrograde is the period when Mercury appears to move backward against the stars as seen from Earth. It is an optical effect caused by the planets' relative speeds, and it happens about three to four times a year for roughly three weeks. In astrology, Mercury rules communication, travel and technology, so retrograde is traditionally seen as a time to slow down, double-check plans and revisit unfinished business. Astrology is for entertainment, but a reminder to re-read the email before you send it never hurt anyone.

    Common Mercury retrograde advice

    • Back up your files and double-check travel details.
    • Re-read contracts and messages before sending.
    • Use the time for revisiting, repairing and reconnecting rather than launching something brand new.
    • Leave extra buffer time for delays.
